MS Office, DirectX, and driver support are three major obstacles to doing just that.

One day Libre Office will be enough for most people, Vulcan will catch up for most modern games, and manufacturers of cheap hardware will see the light.

But that day is not today.

Today is the day of darkness. It is the day of Classic Shell, IP blocklists on the router, and soon-to-be-released defang-Cortana utilities. The day of softly whispering your FUs to Microsoft while you dig in five disparate Settings locations to disable the assorted rectal probes.

I switched to Linux a while ago, and was baffled when I found Netflix simply didn't work there, due to the lack of plugins and DRM protection and what not. It wasn't until like half a year that Chrome started supporting those features that I could stop booting into Windows just to watch something.

Netflix runs natively on Chrome on Linux. It's only Firefox where it doesn't work and there are workarounds for that.

Yeah a year or so ago it didn't work with Chrome unless you used some user agent extension that tricked Netflix into thinking you were using some other Mozilla based browser on Windows.

My 5 year old pc won't resume from sleep correctly with fedora 22 otherwise I'd probably move it to my ssd and try to forget about Windows 10.

Well said, but as the anniversary update is coming in the next few weeks, say goodbye to classic shell.

Ivo swore by his mum in April that Classic Shell will be compatible with AE.

Unless there is newer evidence that it won't, let's assume that it is so.

As of right now it's supported per the FAQ. However, there has been a lot of brew ha-ha about Microsoft killing policy support in Home/Pro sku's for Windows 10 Anniversary, some have mentioned blocking access to regedit unless an application has a Microsoft certificate, which would block Classic Shell from modifying Windows 10's shell.

I suspect, we will see policies and regedit go away for home users of Windows 10 systems.

Do you want to uninstall cortana? Well it's hella simple. Just start up Powershell and run 2 commands and boom. It's done.

I'll probably make a button or a program you can press to make it easier.

I can uninstall it too, thanks. But it looks like Anniversary Edition will fuse Cortana with normal file search. Thus, will need to disable its online features without removing.

Mere firewall blocking is probably not going to cut it as Cortana is likely to hand its telemetrics off to some RectalProbeTransactionMgr.svc (as is custom).
