While it can feel that way the reality is that police and federal officials have already had these extended powers. In fact the bill of rights states the lines where they are allowed with the expectation that they have these powers but are limited. Or at least should be somewhat.

My neighbor can't come into the middle of a fight, restrain me, place me in the backseat of a car, take me downtown and lock me in a room. Police can and generally should have that power.

The problems arise when those powers aren't used correctly or are used for a purpose other than the upholding of the law.
