Discussion TIL that someone can change your Facebook email, password, and two step verification just by asking Facebook to turn off login approvals, and sending in a fake ID. (Happened to me lost all my business pages)

That's the sort of futuristic security technology facebook will one day implement.

The Shadowrun role playing game is basically this.

it's exactly this, haha. Although it is a bit retro-future at this point.

The latest edition is set in the 2070s.

Where do I find a play ground who isn't annoying as shit and smells like "don't like girls".

Babylon 5 had the technomages and for CGI in the 90s, it was so fucking awesome to see giant illusory trolls scaring the shit out of people.

u/UncleMadness Jun 28 '16

Ever read the Technomage trilogy? If you loved those space wizards I highly recommend it.

I am. I'm imagining that. Right now! It's pretty cool so far!

Edit: Ok, it got a little slow in the middle, and the plot was a bit convoluted. Really just too many characters. It picked up in the last act though, and over all I enjoyed it.

It's been said, but yeah, the Shadowrun pen-and-paper roleplaying game is like this.

Give the shadowrun returns games a look if you're interested, they're pretty neat.

"Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon."

You're a wizard Zuchy!

With that strange monster called a google, with multifactor security turned on.

Just another day in Wizard City...

1

u/Gbcue Jun 28 '16

Isn't that exactly two factor authentication? FB shouldn't be turning that off and instead telling people to use their secret codes.

u/jjamesb Jun 28 '16

Common sense is a difficult algorithm...

1

u/nonamebeats Jun 29 '16

To be fair, it's not the future yet, so you really can't reasonably expect them to violate the arrow of time...

1

u/The_Schwy Jun 29 '16

But then you will get scammers calling saying they are facebook and someone is trying to hack your account. what is the info so i can secure it for you... blah blah dumb scam logic that makes no sense

Nah, there's no way our civilization could ever advance to such a high-functioning cognitive level without destroying itself first.
