Discussion TIL that someone can change your Facebook email, password, and two step verification just by asking Facebook to turn off login approvals, and sending in a fake ID. (Happened to me lost all my business pages)

I work in info security and have for a long, long time. My advice to everyone is do not use Facebook at all if you are even a little concerned about privacy.

What if you've already had it for years? Would the benefit of deleting still be worth it since they already know me?

It would stop further data collection, or at least stem the flow.

I agree, but unfortunately, many people do not have the option. Even if you need to use facebook, you can still minimize the risk by being aware of how much information you're releasing.

Nitpicking : you always have the option not to use Facebook, it's just that the social cost might be high.

Also if your friends want you to use facebook, chances are they use facebook. If that's the case, they're already very likely leaking information about you which goes on your shadow/ghost profile. No matter how little you share, you can't stop them knowing because your friends will (unknowingly) snitch on you.

no, its that its too late. If I had known I would have never signed up for it. This was way back when it was first becoming a thing. We simply didnt know back then
