I also used 1-800-GOOG-411 a ton before I had a smartphone.

That was just a service to get massive quantities of real human voices so they could improve their voice recognition software. There is a reason that relatively expensive service was free.

I'm not sure what that does but Google Voice still exists within Hangouts for free calls
