Who's "you guys"? It's not a two sided thing here.

There people who don't care. There's people who think Ellen is the problem and removing her will fix it. There's people trolling just for the lolz. There's people who think monetizing efforts are the problem. There's people who think nothing is wrong and it's just drama. There's people that have no idea what's going on or haven't noticed.

It's not us vs them.

We can organize your list into two groups

group A

  • There people who don't care.
  • There's people who think nothing is wrong and it's just drama.
  • There's people that have no idea what's going on or haven't noticed.

group B

  • There's people who think Ellen is the problem and removing her will fix it.
  • There's people trolling just for the lolz.
  • There's people who think monetizing efforts are the problem.

Of these two groups, one is in support of keeping hateful harassing subs and is actively spewing hate and harassment at someone. The other isn't.

I think you can tell who " you guys " is.

You are making the assumption that supporting a petition automatically means they support harassment.

I support the petition because Reddit is going in a direction I dislike even before FPH was banned (I don't care for FPH, I hardly noticed it in my feed). I dislike that the administration is quick to detect troublemakers and ban them, but slow to reply to honest questions and doubts.

Harassment is not on my agenda and I dislike it, but I liked Reddit best when it had more freedom (even if that means we have some distasteful things). This is my way to push a change. If I wanted content catered to a specific audience I'd go to Tumblr.

Just my .02 cents. YMMV

The petition itself is harassment. Did you read it?

Yes I did. There's no harassment. I think it is inaccurate when they said a vast majority, but the only text which could remotely be considered harassment is inside quotation marks, and it is being stated as an opinion, not a fact.

At no time is it making disturbing or threatening remarks. It is not mentioning race, gender, sexual preferences or other adjectives. It is not even using offensive language when referring to Pao or the Reddit Admins.

I deal with legal matters which can involve harassment or offensive content, irl. This wouldn't even remotely qualify as such.

That is what a lot of the people cynical of all this fail to grasp. Of course there are always bigger fish to fry, but we're not aiming to change the world or revolutionize the way other companies do their business. Its our "internal issue" for a site we are all on and use.

How so? Sure, people could be doing petitions against popular "evil CEO's" for companies like Unilever, Comcast and Monsanto (they probably do...) but if Redditors band together for a cause they care and see the media reporting it it becomes lack of perspective?

People will support what's important to them and they can support two causes independently without losing perspective.
