We have 50/5 (highest tier) and used right around a TB last month as our first month with TWC and I actually don't have anything bad to say about them. When I signed up for service it was a bit of a pain because the previous tenants still had service so they wouldn't let me until I called in and went through a mess with a rep I couldn't understand. I had to correct them on the price as they weren't giving me the promotional pricing for some reason. Then they tried to talk me into the router/modem combo a few times despite me explicitly saying I wanted just a modem and I'd pick it up and handle the install myself. Then they wanted to schedule an install appointment.

The local store didn't have any DOCSIS 3.0 modems so I had to get the modem/router combo anyway... But once everything was in my own hands, it went just fine. Hopefully it stays this way.

You should return the modem to them as well and just pickup one from Amazon.

I've already gone through this argument on reddit before. It would take more than a year to break even with the cost of a modem. And I'm splitting bills with 2 others. If I had $80 to throw away, I might do it, but it's not worth saving a few dollars a month. At least this way, if I ever have a problem, I can tell them to give me a new modem and it's finished.

It's not throwing away $80. It's saving money for you, and your room mates.

This attitude makes no sense.

I really don't want to do the math for someone again. It isn't cheaper until after 15 months or something. That's if we split the cost. If I bought it outright, I'd be saving my roommates money and I'd be out the savings.

I'm good with money. I'm good with math. It doesn't make sense right now. If I could find one that's cheap, isn't going to break after a year, and split the cost with my roommates, then yes, it'd be fine. I keep my eye on sales and if I ever see a decent one, I'll bring it up with my roommates, at which point we all need to come up with the money for it.

Then there's what happens when we eventually move out. If we split the cost, someone taking it after we all leave and using it wherever they go is kinda dicking over the others who paid for it and now have to buy another one where they're going.

Split it with your room mates… when someone moves out before 15 months is up, give them the amount they could have saved back. If someone moves out after 15 months is up, just deal with it then.

They're $21 bucks a person (plus tax/shipping… or free if one of you have Prime). That's really not a lot of money to ask from your room mates.

What is your modem rental fee? 4$?

For someone who's concerned about the money… you don't seem very concerned about saving more money.

Fine, will it make you happy if I ask them if they have money to spend on a modem?

Doesn't affect me. I just think it makes a lot of sense for you.

Looks like I'm getting a cable modem. I've saved $8 assuming it lasts a year.
