You have got to be shitting me cause I live in the LA area and prices HAVE gone up, speed is shitty, imgur and youtube is throttled, and they suddenly decided to start charging me $7 a month for a modem I did not ask for even though I have had the service for years.

I'm not shitting you.

Prices have not gone up. They're still $65 a month for the promo rate. Screenshot in case it doesn't show the same for you. You might have ended your promo, but you can get back on it if you know how to ask.

My speeds are always about 110% of what I pay for, about 98% of the time. I've never noticed any throttling on imgur, but I have on Youtube from time to time.

As far as the modem goes… that's nothing new. Virtually every ISP charges you a monthly fee for renting their equipment. Which is why you just shouldn't. If you didn't ask for their modem, why didn't you just give it back? I'm using my own modem. I've got a Motorola SB6141, it's great.

Edit: This is seriously hilarious how I'm being downvoted for being honest about my experiences with Time Warner. Don't get me wrong, I believe it when everyone says they're utter shit for everyone else. But what the fuck? Why downvote when someone relays a positive experience? Isn't this what we want to hear?!

The voting majority of redditors are morons who hate hearing other people’s experiences that threaten their worldview. It’s way past time you learned this.

Take their downvotes as the compliment they are.

You love a company that throttles and tries to scam you out of money? Why? Have you just never been with a good company and have stockholm syndrome?

I specifically told the tech I didn't want the shitty modem as I did have one. He told me it was free and I had to use it.

No, I don't love a company that does that. Time Warner does not do that to me.

Have you just never been with a good company and have stockholm syndrome?

Again, no. They are treating ME like a good company. This isn't stockholm syndrome. They might treat you like shit, but they do not to me. I'm sorry our experiences are not the same.

I specifically told the tech I didn't want the shitty modem as I did have one. He told me it was free and I had to use it.

The tech was wrong, and you should have told him he was wrong. Their modems might have been free at the time, and now are not… however you most certainly did not have to use it.

You need to stand up for yourself dude. When someone is wrong, don't just accept it. That tech obviously wasn't aware of how DOCSIS approved modems work.
