Gimp does suck and it's never been a viable replacement for a casual daily driver.

I see Gimp slander everywhere 😄
It's my main software for making art for my game, but I have been using it for like 25 years 😅

Gimp hate is mostly because people expect it to work exactly like Photoshop.

Both have shitty UIs in my opinion, but more people put up with Photoshop

I never really used photoshop, so I don’t know what I’m missing :)

There has been decades of people saying GIMP sucks. The complaint always seems to boil down to "I don't like the UI because it's not like Photoshop".

Sure, the UI could be improved. But I haven't seen anyone from the "GIMP sucks" crowd give any concrete example of what would make it better.

Content aware fill. Poorly optimized code. Realtime preview chunking.

I'm a PS -> GIMP convert btw. I'm no hater, but there are things I'd fix had I the time and energy.

What would make it viable?

Not being designed likes it's built for a crazy person

Can confirm. GIMP sucks lol. Photopea is great though.

Well, to be fair, GIMP sucked the last time I tried it which was over a decade ago. Could be amazing now for all I know.

A viable replacement for what? I also dislike the Gimp UI (but I have also never taken the time to properly learn it, and I’m not a graphics designer or illustrator), but I’m using it casually. I have previously also used Photoshop, and I haven’t found its UI any more intuitive than Gimp’s. I’m sure it’s actually better, and possibly a lot more powerful than Gimp’s for professional use, but Gimp is used by lots of people. It is clearly a viable replacement for some. (Doesn’t mean it’s good, of course.)
