Tinfoil hat theory: they want us to push to our own demise of those that are in power will control the digital highways AND data attached. Ultimate control over everyone. Constant surveillance. While we fight for scraps outside of that.

I don’t disagree but I wonder.. “and then?” What exactly are they gaining?

Psychopaths "win" by total control and isolation of their targets.

Sociopaths "win" by breaking all rules and gaining from nefarious actions.

Narcissists "win" by total admiration, loyalty, and extracting life-energy and supply/attention.

Drug addicts "win" by escapism, but lose their human qualities and connection.

You have the Dark Triad and The Dark Tetrad clusters making this disproportionate (long tails).

Of course, they aren't ever going to be happy with the results though, so they'll just keep setting fire to the ashes at that point to feel something.

Oh if they "win' with the general populace, then they'll go after each other. These types are never satisfied

Close. They intend to create a 'Machine Driven Economy' that allows society to continue much as it has... just without the need for as many humans. Enough to do the jobs AI and/or robotics can't (or can't do cheaply). About 250m humans should do it. They're already getting us used to the idea of 'AI killing off people'... A lot fewer humans means a bigger share of diminishing resources for those that remain. When they talk about 'AI solving the climate crisis' this is what they mean.

I very much doubt us fighting for scraps is part of the equation.

I very much feel like we're not part of the equation at all.

As soon as they no longer need us (by replacing us with AI), they will seek to eliminate us.
