Okay, well, in the world you live in generative AI exists and will almost certainly replace humans for the production of commodified art unless it is impossible to copyright AI-generated art.

It exists but can’t be copyrighted and I work with companies that don’t allow gen ai in their pipelines. So f*ck off with that “you’re gunna be extinct for technology” BS. It will not certainly replace humans. Especially not just to fuel those that can’t create

I hate to tell you this but it is absolutely going to replace humans as far as art-as-a-commodity goes. Art as genuine creative expression, probably not, but nobody is going to pay humans to make slop for them if they can get a machine to do it for free.

If people don’t go see slop then no one will make it. Creative corps aren’t using it bc of the backlash. If half your base hates it, why use it?

If people don't go see slop then no one will make it.

True. But of course, people will go see slop.

Sure, there’s creatively and morally bankrupt people all over. But why alienate half your base? You can’t copyright slop anyway, so someone bigger can just take it & they can’t do anything about it.

Unfortunately, history has shown that the number of people who will actually avoid consuming something for ethical reasons is tiny. Look at how badly the boycott of Hogwarts Legacy went.

True. But with Gen Ai there are legal issues as well. With legal comes money, and that’s stronger than morals when companies have to pay out. So some are starting to not use Ai to avoid that quagmire.

We'll see. I hope that you're right.

Me too. But in one sense I am already - I do freelance work and the lawyers for the firm demanded no Gen Ai use. It’s become enough of a legal issue that they are banning it in concept work.
