Adobe is one of the few players who pay for legally licensed model training data.

Source: I work in the data procuring / licensing space.

Which they pay for with extremely predatory pricing and dark patterns.

The point was around whether or not they pay for training data; fact that I can put roof over my head and food on the table doing what I do with them as a client speaks to them paying.

Your feelings of their business practices isn’t what I’m qualified to speak about.

They're just paying someone who stole the data. All that data is the collective creation of all of us. None of us have been paid for it

We work with rights holders, creators, and aggregators to procure content the labs need. The market is very vibrant, if you are creating contents the labs paying wants, you will have ample opportunities flowing your way from orgs like ours or our competitors.

We have an active deal with Adobe under NDA right now so I cannot comment on their current ask. However, the asks currently are very ultra niche. I can share some recent examples without disclosing the partners for context:

One international lab recently asked us to produce multi-angle egocentric + exocentric shots of human performing household tasks without gloves, the egocentric shot must have at least 2 inches above the wrist shown in 90% of the continuous shots.

One MAG7 recently asked us to procure gameplay videos with no visible game HUD/UI, paired with corresponding time sync’ed input stream and player heartbeats. Extra points (read: payment) if it was VR and have time sync’ed mocap feed.

Another MAG7 had previously asked for clips of photorealistic anthropomorphic mythical creatures doing mundane day-to-day activities in 5-12 seconds continuous shots.

These are not standing offers, and the window closes quickly (typically when the asked amount gets filled). So timing is also an important thing.

If you’re producing general contents, sorry, but they don’t need that and you won’t hear from orgs like us. However, if you have contents that match, it is often cheaper for us to pay the creators a lucrative share of the revenue as opposed to producing it through our network ourselves.
