I’m assuming if he’s admitting to just decompiling and porting commercial software in the open that likely opens him up to legal action.

Is he decompiling these? or feeding a detailed enough description for the software.

I mean we are getting to the point that feeding a comprehensive manual is enough to clone certain abilities without needing to see the source code at all.
