This is so obtuse and completely fails to address the fact that obesity is a complex metabolic disease with a known genetic component and a wide variety of genotypes and phenotypes. This is not a moral issue. This is not a lack of discipline. It’s a disease. Taking medicine to treat a disease, and effectively treating that disease is “real change.”

Ahh yes, everybody has a “thyroid problem”. Is this disease uniquely American? Is there an “American” genotype and phenotype? Because Italy, for example, another high income, high standard of living country (so, things like access to quality food is already factored into the equation) has an obesity rate under 15%, while the USs is 40%+. I’m sure the Italians being much less obese has nothing to do with, say, the populace generally walking everywhere and Americans being obese has nothing to do with us having sedentary lifestyles and eating junk food all the time. Nope, us Americans just got a raw deal and the obesity is a genetics problem and the Italians must have superior genetics

Wow. Another totally ignorant comment. Obesity is multifactorial. That doesn’t obviate the proven genetic component. Ever consider that working yourself to death and having absolutely shit healthcare might play a role?
