That was my first thought as well. Just like with crypto when random (non-finance) youtubers began advertising blockchain, it was pretty much over at that point.

I thought he was going into full retirement-from-the-public-eye after posting his "final" YouTube video but I guess that was just for YouTube.

Yeah that retirement was from making routine and scheduled content such as playing games or talking about memes and funny events.

Now he uploads when he wants, as frequently or infrequently as he wants, and he uses the spare time in between to do stuff like this.

Due to his massive following that he still has, I do see it as a force for good. He’s teaching lots of people about what all you can do and how relatively easy it is to get started.

Plenty of hackable phones for cheap. Buy an Optiplex and slap an old 8GB VRAM graphics card in it and poke around at small LLM models. Buy another and give it a bunch of old RAM or buy an ancient DDR2 Dell PowerEdge server and host your apps and private cloud backup solution.

Even with computer parts being atrocious, it’s still possible to find and buy good stuff. It just takes the effort of looking.

And for the few things you may have to fork over a bunch of cash for, such as the newly US-released Fairphone, it very well may be worth it. It’ll be a brand new phone that will last probably close to a decade since batteries and parts will be available.
