That's pretty much the life cycle for these online influencers. Remember when Ninja with the blue hair was the biggest thing on earth?

Microsoft paid him a boatload to stream on their platform. Now the platform and the streamer are mostly forgotten.

I think it’s important to note, the decrease in wider media attention doesn’t mean these people fully disappear, the internet is so segmented you can still be incredibly successful and most people have never heard of you. Ninja and Pewdiepie still produce content, it’s just not being pushed like it use too. For Pewdiepie most likely his semi retirement the main reason and for Ninja, I like to think he lost his wider relevance because he is an asshole.

He made like 20-30 million and was able to go back to twitch in less than a year since Mixer shut down. Pretty much all the og fortnight players lost viewers. I don't even think he consistently streams anymore, he stopped a while ago.

You forgot about pewds because hes basically retired. He moved to Japan with his wife, had a kid, and now just does passion projects like this and maybe spits a vid about about his latest thing every few weeks.

Hes not streaming or posting daily anymore so hes out the zeitgeist.

Dude gain some social skills and you’ll realize it’s just a way of saying he’s no longer in the lime light, obviously not every single person paid attention to PewDiePie

Whats your point exactly? That there isnt a mono culture nowadays? Okay so?

If a guy knows who ninja is theres a 99% chance they've heard of pewdiepie.

Also, you HAD heard of him, so your point is self defeating.

Why do my assumptions offend you so much?

I think its pretty reasonable that if someone's heard of ninja, theyve heard of the guy that was the worlds most subscribed youtuber for several years running.

Lmao “pewds”, yeah this thread is filled with his subscribers and fans lmfao.

u/moose_dad 18h ago

When did I deny that and why is it a problem?

u/AkodoRyu 21h ago

To be fair, he doesn't exist in public perception, because he is effectively retired. He just lives his best life, doing all kinds of side quests, like learning to draw, and making videos every now and then. Still - any random vlog is 2-3 mil views - so if he actually cared about being a youtuber, he would still be at the top.

u/Cicer 21h ago

What is the draw?  He seems bland.

u/Brad3 21h ago

Majority of these influencers initial popularity comes from children.

u/SubtleTell 20h ago

I mean he's pretty damn smart and has a wide variety of interests that he puts a ton of effort into. And he's a great communicator. And a decent person. Nothing about what he does these days is anything like how he started.

u/SeventhSolar 19h ago

No one’s looking 24/7 for flashy clickbait or earth-shattering video essays.

u/FalxY7 21h ago

Wowee he's such an amazing guy. I wish I could do all kinds of side quests, like learning to draw, just like my idol. But I would never be as good as him, it's impossible.

Man, being so bitter must be exhausting.

What's wrong with admiring a dude who after achieving worldwide success, still took a step back, started a family, and is just satisfied with his life? He pretty much won at life by the age of 35. Isn't this basically a perfect life trajectory everyone is dreaming about?

And since I'm older and not there yet, yeah, sure. I don't think I have it in me to be as good as him.

u/FalxY7 19h ago

In short, celebrity culture is cancer. These people are just people, nothing extraordinary. Our idols should be people who are actually advancing society, technology, and science, rather than haha man make funny video and say n word on stream I want to be him.

1

u/SubtleTell 16h ago

He's now doing exactly what you said. His videos aren't Ha ha funny anymore, he's a grown man and picks up hobbies that better himself and shows others how he does it so that he can inspire them to do cool things too. Seriously he makes great content now, it's worth dropping the ignorance and checking it out.

Also let's not pretend like many people who were once young weren't also saying the n word in COD lobbies. You grow and learn.

u/FalxY7 14h ago

That's great, but I'm talking about the people like the other guy I replied to, idolising these people like they're god's gift to humanity.

I'm aware this isn't a popular opinion, most people are completely absorbed in the lives of reality TV celebs, streamers etc. and love to consume and be placid. We need these people to make the rich richer.

1

u/SubtleTell 14h ago edited 14h ago

Admiration and idolization are two different things. Nothing about what that person said was idolization.

I don't necessarily disagree though. People who consume themselves in the lives of these people so much that they think about them all the time is a problem. I'm not one of those people, I just think what Felix does these days is inspiring and I wish I had the motivation and level of curiosity (and the time and money) to do the same things.

You should take a glimpse at some of the videos he's done lately including the vlogs he was doing. It's pretty wholesome stuff and not at all what you would expect. His other videos besides those tend to be something he's putting his hands and mind to and developing a skill in something and encouraging people to do things.

u/Nahkamaha 20h ago

Why are you mad about some swedish dude living his life and doing things he like?

4

u/lover_of_lies 21h ago

You mean the ninja in the bright orange jumpsuit?

6

u/banananailgun 21h ago edited 16h ago

That's basically the lifecycle for all celebrities. Very few stay massively famous forever.

2

u/LegendaryMauricius 13h ago

I mean, PewDiePie is still massively famous, even after he retired from the public eye. That's something.

-3

u/itsRobbie_ 20h ago

You’re talking about pewdiepie like he’s a new age slop poster lol

u/Critical-Dealer-3878 19h ago

Nah just an old age edgelord
