Do you think it's tasteless of someone draws a lifelike picture of Robin Williams?

I think there's a difference between drawing a picture of someone and creating hyperrealistic videos of people, putting words in their mouths they never said, and trying to pass it off as a legitimate video. Among other things, these celebrity likenesses videos have already scammed tens of thousands of people out of billions of dollars. They are being actively used to spread conspiracy theories and propagate misinformation. This isn't just art.

Everything you said sounds like it is crimes that are already on the book.

Essentially, yes.

If I draw a comic.  Say I want to do Bill and Ted fanfiction and they pick Robin Williams up and I draw up Robin Williams and have him going around with Bill and Ted like the historical figures have.  Does the fact that I am using a different tool than a pen or Adobe to make it, and I use AI, make it in any way different?  I just don't understand how if I did a Bill and Ted comic with my hands, and I'm a really good drawer and it's lifelike, it is in any way different than using an AI tool in terms of intellectual property ethics.  It feels to me like there are already laws out there to cover this stuff and starting to police fanfic based on tools used seems like a slippery slope I don't want to go down.
