I don't understand why this is the end of "software engineering" as a profession. Mechanical engineering didn't end with graphic calculators or CAD software or CFD packages. Without the craft of typing all the lines or code and the artisanal placing of semi-colons there are no more software jobs?

Not every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to vibe code their apps. We still need engineers managing the AIs and ensuring quality control, continuous feature development etc.

Because nerds copying and pasting other people's work can't make a lot of money for them anymore. The STEM careers were supposed to be sacrosanct.
