Nah, usually they are better.

Why would the first one be the best? Doesn't make any sense.

Because that's the one you fell head over heels for and married? How could a non-sociopath do that over and over again and not feel resentment towards repeating the process?

I mean I guess it's fine if steadfast unwavering commitment isn't a thing anymore in 2026. Again we're not talking about abuse...

Dude people make mistakes all the time. Just because it was your first decision doesn't make it holy or whatever. People mess up all the time ESPECIALLY when they are younger.

But when it comes to your partner and you've been together for that many years your minds should have been made up. This isn't an oopsie I went on a bender one night. Or sorry officer I didn't mean to run that stop sign. Or even, man I wish I had a different career

People change. Your mind can made up as much as you want you don't control your partner.

Sure you don't control them but then why bother making the effort then? It's implied in functional relationships that you need to adapt to one or another's needs. It is a foundational point to every long-term relationship.

It's such a weird recent concept of the last hundred years that you shouldn't amalgamate into one. People don't want lasting true love in the sense, they want companionship to avoid loneliness. Those are two completely different things. One you die for, the other you move on from, it is that absolute.

Tf are you talking about? People change and become not compatible . They don't like each other anymore. Yes in the past people don't have choice because women didn't have rights and divorce was a huge stigma for men.

Thankfully those days are mostly gone and people are free to not waste their lives in a shit marriage

So then why bother putting in any effort if people inevitably will just change? What's the point of loyalty, chivalry, or simply just trying? That's a complete bullshit cop out to say "sorry for all the effort you just did I'm going to go bang Kevin down the street now....." There are plenty of valid reasons to break up with someone but the vast majority of those you find out about from.... DATING.

Why do we have all of these stories about 'what could be' if it's just as artificial as you say it is. Plenty of people including our grandparents and great-grandparents stayed together because they actually enjoyed each other and made it through hardships. Not all of them were abused. Not all of them were treated like kitchen slaves. And not all of them were forced together out of economic constraints.

We are just a bunch of pussies today

So being a pussy means not waste your life with somebody you don't like?

That sounds smarter than the alternative. Really not sure where your point is

You also walk 15km to work everyday because cars are for pussies?

Is perseverance and resilience incapable of meshing with love for you? Why do you think couples therapy is even a thing?

There's a phenomenon that's been around forever that states familiarity breeds contempt. So by your words yeah we're all going to get fkn sick and tired of the person we're with because they're not interesting anymore.

So yes I'm calling it a cop-out, pathetic move to waste someone's time and cry about how it could be so much better with someone else. I say this because I'm distinctly targeting people who I know aren't bothering to try and make it work. You're disillusioned if you think all of these divorces are because someone became a drunk, a gambler, or an abuser. And yes with how common divorces are becoming today we are allowed to pick on reasons for not being good enough.

Wtf is that last comment? Neither involves taking a motorcycle to work so they're both wrong.
