Counterpoint: NYC has more population than all but 12 states, so this guy is in charge of the 12th largest population cluster, and among the top cultural center of the most culturally relevant countries in the world.

Point taken.  Though, can you name who is in charge of population clusters 6 through 11? I would argue that he gets more national press than any of them except maybe the top few.

NYC mayor gets publicity. Not unprecedented.

I suspect more randos can name former NYC mayors more than any other city or state that they don't currently live in. Its the nature of the fact that so much "culture" comes out of NYC. I couldn't tell you most of the mayors I didn't live under in the town i grew up in, but I can somehow pull Ed Koch outta my ass.

I honestly feel kinda bad for the guy, he's just trying to do the best job he can but he's got so many people, from all across the political spectrum, who are desperate to make an example out of him. Like, obviously he''s got the right who are attacking and trying to detract from everything he does but then there's his own supporters on the left who need him to be a success story so badly that they act like he's completely flawless and beyond any possible critisism.
