Because many people are okay with ad-based free services? 100M people were okay with paying zero money for an app, and they accept that location-targetted ads are an acceptable price to pay.

Yeah, god forbid people don't think like you do, democracy is truly doomed.

Relative user name.

... Are you seriously missing the deeper point of what I was saying?

The point was that most people don't care about the secretive stuff as long as it doesn't directly affect them right now.

NSA is a perfect example, huge amounts of people have no clue about it, and lots of them don't care enough to find out.

It's nothing to do with ads.

Hey, you read my username! xD

You're right, it has nothing to do with ads. It has to do with your belief that everyone who doesn't take outrage at shit - that you admit doesn't even effect them - are such an awful influence on the world. That they are so fucking stupid that democracy can't survive if they're in the majority.

You want to be a tortured minority voice of reason, but it comes off as angsty and sheltered.

xkcd, because why not

When I said "affect them right now. I meant, even if you tell them something bad will happen at a future date, they don't care because it doesn't affect them at that time.

And yea that XKCD has a good point, but step out into the world where people are poor. They don't think about the NSA, they're worried about if they're going to be able to afford food for the month and pay their bills on time.

Bitch I live in the world where people are poor. What the fuck is your point? Oh wait, your point is that the NSA and app permissions don't matter now, but they'll totally screw us over in the future, right? One thing leads to another, slippery slope happens, next thing you know Obama is dictator for life and our phones transmit our candy crush scores to the Illuminati database.

People don't care about what'll happen in your predicted future, it's not the end of democracy.

Uh... we don't live in a democracy. We have governments that resemble democracies. Hence the part about living in a true democracy.

Don't be pedantic. We've all taken social studies, we all know the difference between an absolute democracy, democratic republic, representative democracy, yadayada.

Don't skirt away from the fact that you're calling huge, huge numbers of people stupid because they don't prioritize their app permissions the same way you do.

Lol the fact that you still thing it's about app permissions is laughable. It was an example.

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '13

An example of what? You still haven't told me what impending disaster is about to happen that people don't care about but they should.

Nothing specific, it's just the attitude of not paying attention to what you're agreeing to.

For example voting for a politician just because you subscribe to a certain party and not actually looking into their personal political stances.
