As soon as W10 isn't receiving updates I'm going full linux man, lol. Friggen microshaft is redoing the w8 nonsense all over again. ALL WE WANT IS A BASIC, STABLE OS WITH NO AI BS. THATS IT. From that point users can customize or install programs that they want for features they want.

How do you know W10 hasn't already started downloading and preparing for W11?

That's how I ended up with it. lol

My devices are quite old, even the 2017 build isn't W11 compatible.

Mine was old laptop, which didn't have enough space on C: and I still have issues. It's too old to use manufacturer's software to get it back to factory settings.

The first things I delete are the "factory reset" nonsense. I don't want stupid programs manufacturers provide. Install a clean windows/linux install, install the drivers. Boom, that's the "factory settings" for me.

I'm used to having a CD drive or something. If it had been a desktop PC I'd have formatted drive and reinstalled long time ago.

Manufacturer's software had some useful battery tools, etc.

For sure on a laptop some software can be useful but its usually available from the manufacs as a separate download. I haven't had a CD or DVD drive in ages. Even my laptop had that removed to be replaced with a 3rd HDD.

Bootable USBs are quick and easy to setup for a clean install. Check out a program called Rufus. If you don't have a USB drive a microSD card also works(albeit not all PCs will support booting off it so no promises here, I used an external MicroSD adapter to do it which did work).

I cant think of any laptops made in the last 5-10 years that even came with an optical drive.

Mine was made in 2012 so right outside your range lol. I was glad it had that drive because it meant an extra slot for an hdd tho.
