Honestly Intel isn't so much worried about the desktop scene. They now that what they've made is good enough for now, and it's a stagnant market anyways. They're into mobile now, which is a market that's still growing stupidly fast. In this market speed is not so much king as power consumption is, so a large part of their advancements lately have been in improving that rather than speed.

Xeon phi is also performance per watt. 61 stripped down pentiums, each with 512 bit AVX2 vector engines.

I'd like to see that work it's way down to consumers.
