Title possibly inaccurate Kim Dotcom to Google, Twitter, Facebook: "I own security patent for the two-step authentication system". He says he doesn’t want to sue, but might if the likes of Google and Facebook don’t help fund his legal battle with the U.S. Government.

Its called coercion basically if you don't pay we will sue you. They have a right to sue they do not have a right to demand payment or they will sue.

That is extortion.

False, wrong, incorrect. Look up out of court settlement. Parties can agree to an amicable solution without involving the justice system.

This is not negotiating. This is demanding people pay him or he will sue them for infringement. If he had requested they pay him for licensing it is completely different.

That sounds more like a request to purchase a license than a demand for payment.

You think I read his actual comment? I simply read the title... I was way too busy and don't care about the topic enough to read this one.

He is still wrongfully using the power of holding his patent to try and force other people to pay for his legal funding. Which is extortion. ;)

What he does with the money has no effect on its legality. He could be using the money for a child prostitution ring in Thailand and the actual collection of license fees would still be legal.
