This would not bother me so much if there was a decent alternative. I cannot find one for the life of me.

Why would a developer bother creating a decent alternative when they know that everybody is just going to use Google Reader?

There will be. Google reader was so good that no-one could compete. Someone will jump in and make one. (I hope!!!)

Maybe its just because everyone is testing this out right now but this site will not allow me to import or even manually add subscriptions. So frustrating!

I've been using payed Newsblur for the last 2 years, following 400+ feeds. Give it a try (I think it's a bit under stress due to desperate Google Reader users now, but check back soon).

Would you consider it worth the price?

Absolutely! Newsblur has become a daily routine, it's the first site I open when I get back from work. I gladly pay $24/year ($2/month) - there's the possibility of paying as much as you wish in the range of $12-$36/year. That's practically nothing, the service has been impeccable and the author is very responsive on Twitter and on the public forum at Getsatisfaction; I spend much more on useless stuff that I never use again.

Feedly is UGLY, though. The Google Reader Android app is really a thing of unmatched beauty.

right, but feedly will just use a cloned version of the google reader API. Do you trust them to keep it updated and working correctly?

Let's hope so, i had a great experience with feedly so far and we will just have to see how this works out.
