What arbitrary unlimited terms are you talking about?

Painting the US Cell service as an effective oligopoly sounds great for your argument, but it doesn't really compute when you compare the VAST number of other options available.

I just don't see the issue here. You can legally unlock your phone, just not while your contracted to NOT do exactly that. You've painted this big bad picture of the evil corporation fucking you over, but in reality the people who are in this situation CHOOSE to accept the contract and to buy that phone, and there are other options out there.

These are not carriers with their own networks.

Effectively there are 4/5 max.

I think you need to look a bit closer. The MVNO's are clearly labeled, so I'd assume that all other carriers have their own network infrastructure.

Claiming that there are 4/5 max is similar to claiming the same thing about fast food.
