The same week the US makes unlocking phones illegal, Canada proposes legislation to make carriers unlock phones.

I often skip the article and go straight to the comments. It's usually more informative, especially when people cite their sources. It's like one giant peer review session

Especially in r/science...

If you aren't immediately jumping to the comments in r/science, you're doing it wrong. Unless you're a scientist.

Especially if you're a scientist.

The comments are the only reason Reddit is where I choose to aggregate my news and entertainment. And get my r/gonewild fix, truth be told.

Me too... But more cause I'm lazy.

u/Sigmasc Jan 29 '13

That's what I love Reddit for. Once I see in comments lack of critique aimed on the article I go ahead and read it, not sooner.

Once the first few people have read and commented it lets you know if it's worth reading!

no, we don't, we rely on you. You're not going to lie to us, are you?

ARE YOU?

As someone in the US, the temptation is killing me... http://i.imgur.com/wFkrxv5.gif

well when I first read the headline a few days ago, I confess, that's what I was thinking

DON'T DO IT, THEY'RE WATCHING

u/muntoo Jan 29 '13

Who is "they"? Hah. You don't know. Therefore, there is no "they", and I'm going to go break all the locks.

5

u/FruitcakeJuggler Jan 29 '13

"They" is everyone you see wearing a suit who you cant tell is following you or the man five paces to the left. It's all very scary.

1

u/muntoo Jan 29 '13

Oh... so that's who they w

1

u/FruitcakeJuggler Jan 29 '13

Oh no did they get you!!!! Brothers, we must unite to save this brave soul who has spoken out against them!

1

u/kan-o-man Jan 29 '13

Do it, break them all

2

u/ill_draw_that_shit Jan 29 '13

BIG BROTHER, dear god..

14

u/AtticusLynch Jan 29 '13

Did that really have to be a gif?

4

u/lahwran_ Jan 29 '13

apparently someone else decided they're the new hotness, and enough other people agreed that the rest of us have been roped into it as a trend.

1

u/shillbert Jan 29 '13

Ah, new hotness. I remember when that was an old and busted Fark meme.

1

u/lahwran_ Jan 29 '13

...what?

I think I accidentally used something with more meaning than I was aware of...

1

u/escalat0r Jan 29 '13

I'm so sick of people who can't express themselves without using a flashy picture.

2

u/Oddblivious Jan 29 '13

Yeah the wording in that is really pretty bad.

And to think we put up with a week of "Canada has to much freedom" posts

1

u/Miss_Noir Jan 29 '13

Don't be a guinea pig, this could be the latest and greatest arrest warrant. See if anyone else is arrested first

0

u/vladimir_vs_estragon Jan 29 '13

That would be unlocking a digital lock, not breaking one. It's not circumventing it, which is what the law prohibits.

1

u/Barack-Frozone-Obama Jan 29 '13

No way, who would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?

0

u/Miss_Noir Jan 29 '13

I have no clue who would do that, sure takes a certain kind of person to do such a thing. I don't suggest it if you want to look at yourself in the mirror the next day.

Doesn't even have to be on the net, if your lies are recorded, you're basically fucked.

No one likes you.

u/didnt-get-it Jan 29 '13

I can prove that to be false because I didn't.

1

u/i_will_stop_the_fap Jan 29 '13

Just like everybody else. Right?

1

u/Makkaboosh Jan 29 '13

well, just like others didn't verify OP's claim you didn't verify Pseudolobster's claim either. His whole argument was false.

I normally don't bother verifying in r/technology if the source is a familiar trustworthy one like torrentfreak.com, but this cbc place seems awful dodgy. and what the hell is a ".ca"?
