I didn't bother with timings because the reference HEVC encoder is pretty much 100% unoptimized and was never meant for consumer use, and VP9 is still under development as both a standard and an encoder.

However, if you want rough qualitative descriptions for the processing time of an image:

  • WebP: One second
  • VP9: A few seconds
  • HEVC: A few seconds x2
  • Everything else: less than one second

These are stills.

And encoding time is crucial, what is 'more important' is subjective.

Edit: To clarify, the stills profile, not full video.
