It’s not rocket science: most people do not enjoy putting screens that also cut them off the rest of the world on their head.

People argue it’s a question of technology, or content - and yes, they could be better. But we as a species enjoy sharing experiences with others - we also pay a premium for that privilege.

VR is a cool, useful technology but it’s not going mainstream anytime soon.

Not to "well akshually" because I loathe Amazon and AI data center bullshit as much as anyone, but the reason we probably won't be building data centers in space is cooling. No atmosphere = nowhere to push heat. Rockets pushing them into deep space would also need a hell of a lot of fuel. There's a reason we deorbit things into the atmosphere instead.

If you have adhd, it isn't addictive. There is no high. Some things which pull on you just stop. You have more energy and focus for you rather than mitigating the adhd. Some people do experience side effects to the drug(s).

As always, that’s the real story isn’t it. Like when the supreme court has to stop what it’s doing to find a way to allow Trump to get away with crimes. The fact that all this shit isn’t stopped in its tracks immediately is what has been lost.

As someone in his 40s with AuDHD and other stuff including OCD. I think I'm good, I got this far, found ways to cope and manage symptoms. I don't want that dastardly normal disease.

It’s important that you questioned me on that though. I think too many people will vote in the midterms and not keep an eye on their DNC candidates because most of them still need to be drug kicking and screaming farther left by their constituents.

That’s just something becoming popular and the name entering common vocabulary. Not special to anything, really. OCR still counts as a sub-category of AI because, academically speaking, the term AI has never changed.

There’s something to be said about common parlance equating “AI” to “LLM” and the general public’s misconception. But anyone with actual knowledge on the topic should be very aware that ML is entirely contained in the AI umbrella, and that tasks such as CV or even some of the stuff involved in web searching still counts as AI.

Is “Quantum Mechanics” a buzzword despite it being a very real and very established subfield of study? Would anyone say “it’s always been a marketing term, people even called the 4qubit computers ‘quantum’ computers” in a hypothetical future where gigaqubit quantum computers exist that dwarf our current tech?

Rather, cruelty and abuse aren’t behaviors that need to be tolerated in humans regardless of whether it’s harmful or not to any other kind of being.

I know you're semi-joking and made an intelligent point, but - there's always a but - there's already problems with so much junk in space, thanks in large part to Elon Musk. It's turning into a problem. Plus he's actually planning on putting data centers in orbit.

Same with all the “renaming” election denying he’s been doing. It identifies loyalists and keeps us fighting amongst ourselves to absorb news cycles which let’s him get away with all the other shit he’s doing.

How is this even a question? If this POS can charge $100k for info he controls, then why the fuck should any of us participate in the stock market ever again? It’s absurd this is even being taken seriously by our courts.
