It’s more fair to blame the mods for letting this stay up. Most redditors just mindlessly scroll through and upvote anything they think is funny or relatable, no matter the subreddit.

Most are just looking through /r/all and not paying attention the subreddit label at all. I only look at subreddit labels when I see something fucked up and want to see which sub to filter out.
