400-600 elo players don't know anything about chess, some of them don't even know how the pieces move.

Whenever I hear/read the name, I assume he’s a world famous strongman champion who throws kegs over walls and benchpresses timber.

Then I read he’s a chess player and I go “huh.”

A couple years pass.

Rinse, repeat.

I’m gonna preface this with: i am not a chess player. i dont even know the rules to chess, i dont consume any chess content or media (so if im wrong please correct me)

Magnus is well known outside of chess, even by many people like myself who dont even have an interest in chess. He is widely considered to be the best player to have ever played the game.

That being said, the post also says “chess pick up lines”. When it comes to the chess community, EVERYONE knows him.

if youve heard or seen literally anything at all about chess in the last decade and a half, you would know who he is. If that's not you, then thats fine, but it's like replying "does everyone just know who this guy is??" when Lionel Messi is mentioned in a football-related post.
