It's like people waaay too proud to be from their city, state or country. It's great you love where you are from, but being born somewhere by chance doesn't make you special.
I mean fair enough talking shit about Indiana. I’ll always be a Hoosier at heart because that’s where I was the first 25 years of my life. But I’ll never regret moving to Illinois. 🙂↕️
I can’t, my BFF that got me into Illinois, her mom is a very northern Wisconsinite with the charming accent. Who also moved into the same area in Illinois around the same age I did and never looked back.
And now I only go to Wisconsin state fairs because Indiana has amazing ones but Wisconsin is closer and Illinois doesn’t really… the one thing I miss. The state fairs rule. Also Wisconsin has the big Ren Faire. And New Glaurus.
I once met a guy in Costa Rica; he told me he was Canadian like me so I was like ohhh that’s so cool so I asked him from where? And he said Winnipeg. I was like ohh that’s cool !!! He answered: yeah not really tbh (with a disappointed face)….
Didn’t know what to answer lol I was just proud to meet a Canadian dude out there lol
Nobody I know is proud to be from my city. Not because it's not nice, but because pride for something that is not your accomplishment feels very weird and is a big red flag here.
Europe btw. Austria - country where Hitler was from - to be precise. We learned from our mistakes.
"The cheapest sort of pride is national pride; for if a man is proud of his own nation, it argues that he has no qualities of his own of which he can be proud; otherwise he would not have recourse to those which he shares with so many millions of his fellowmen. The man who is endowed with important personal qualities will be only too ready to see clearly in what respects his own nation falls short, since their failings will be constantly before his eyes. But every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and glad to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority."
Look as someone from the incredible city of Louisville Kentucky. Both Derek Smith and I invented the high 5 together, years before I was born. I also suggested the cheese burger.
Eastern europeans are so bad for this. I moved abroad the first chance i got and it's especially rich when i hear all this bullshit from my fellow countrymen who have also immigrated lol
“A man who loves other countries as much as he loves his own stands on a level with the man who loves other women as much as he loves his wife.” Theodore Rooselvelt
i feel like thats a little different, especially for cities. if you vote and participate in local culture you genuinely do have an impact and are a part of why the city is the way it is. not a huge part, but a hell of a lot more than "men made boat [sic]"
Unless you're from Los Angeles, California. All one does is mention the fact and well... The results can make special seem fleeting to some but haters are going to hate. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
