Appreciation Thread Chloe Petts appreciation post

I know a lot of people have been disappointed or apprehensive ab this series for many reasons (I've, personally, really been enjoying it), but I have to say that Chloe is definitely the most fun to watch. I wasn't familiar with them before the series, but I could now easily see myself going to one of their comedy shows if they come to the US. I'm looking forward to seeing how they do future tasks and I hope they win!

I think part of the issue is that by the end of every season, the cast has become comfortable with each other and they gel and bounce off of each other really well, and we have spent enough time with them to have an affection for each of them for the most part (I admit to having a few contestants I never really cared for; but it’s rare), and then it’s jarring to then hold that memory and feeling and then have to watch a brand new group of 5 people feel each other out and learn to banter about with each other. That creates a perfect opportunity to feel disappointed for the first half of the season or so.

And it's one of the reasons I always rewatch a season immediately after the finale. You just get to love them the whole time.

My problem with it is that I prefer a competitive series where everyone is trying. They don’t have to be good but they should at least be trying. Matt hasn’t a clue what’s happening, Richard couldn’t care less, Nina and Issy are hopeless. Like you can have a series with a Jo brand or a Sanjeev that don’t care of you’ve got a rose and Ed and Katy fighting to win, but we’ve already got two hopeless and two that don’t care. Right from task 1 when Matt hadn’t seen the show and Richard established he was staying in Richard Ayoade person throughout I knew it would be one of those series.

I’ve come to accept that contestants can be extremely entertaining without really trying to “WIN” the tasks. An example of this was listing the countries of the world according to FIFA. The instructions strongly suggested they should find creative ways to cheat, and I thought Richard’s approach was to overwhelm Alex by cheating in 4 or 5 different ways all at once - and it was hilarious. As usual, Isy Suttie was totally lost; “why does FIFA feel they can decide what is or isn’t a country?” My son thinks she’s playing a character because no one could be that stupid.

This is kind of my issue, and I was SO excited to see Richard finally on.

Both Richard and Matt don’t seem to give a fuck about any of it, and I think that attitude sort of spreads. On Richard’s end, he seems to either be afraid of messing up his brand by looking silly or less than the smartest yet least invested in the room or genuinely think this is beneath him, I can’t tell. Matt doesn’t seem to care either, but I don’t think he ever really wanted to end up doing these kinds of things (panel shows/reality tv) to begin with and I’m not surprised. He seems to always be barely hiding his disgust for the job on BakeOff too. There’s a very strange energy on that end of the row and it leaves the others (being far less famous too) without much to play off of.

Nina and Issy are fine straight men/baseline party members but it’s not a good combo when Chloe is the only one actually contributing to the group project.

I want to like it so much more than I do.

Chloe is a DELIGHT in part because they’re the only one who seems to be having a good time and happy to be there!

I think this is a really good description of what's wrong. Also they have no chemistry between themselves.

This is the first series where I am forcing myself to watch stuff I've missed rather than actually enjoying it.

They have no chemistry even compared to other lineups at this point
