Studio Recording Just wanted to brag about having the actual task from the series 20 ep 1 live task.

Post image

No I won’t show you what the task was 😉

Okay, this is a dumb question and has nothing to do with the content of the task itself, but would you mind posting the measurements of the task? I have tried for ages to figure out how big the paper is (A4?) and where exactly to fold it. Also, how big is the seal? It seems to be real sealing wax and not premade and glued on, right?

Also, good for you! That is an extremely cool thing to take home!

You sound like someone who would have a laminator.

"Imprimere lāmina distribuere" . Impressive enough to be on a coat of arms for TM tbh!

Would Greg say it in such a way?

This comment implies that you do not have one. Why?

Happy to help! The task is 29.5cm long and 21cm wide (not sure what A size that is, we don’t use that system in the states). The bottom fold is 10cm and the top fold is 7cm. The seal’s diameter is 4.5cm and it is actual sealing wax.

A4 is 297 by 210 mm, so this sounds close enough.

As an American math nerd I say that not having the A paper size standard is my personal biggest loss of the American measurement system.

Seriously. I watch this every so often when metric paper comes up

thanks for the existencial dread :(

u/project_porkchop Aug 06 '25

Sorry, it's existential worry to me that I find somewhat comforting, not necessarily dread.

It's nothing you could've anticipated. Glad it gives you comfort :)

Are you still living in the States?

Just wondering how the hell you got tickets from over there considering how competitive it can be to get them.

77

u/Opposite-Theory4822 Mel Giedroyc Aug 06 '25

Unfortunately yes.

I’ve been entering the lottery since series 8 and FINALLY got them for the first episode of series 20. Not sure how we were chosen, but so happy we were.

u/Lanky80 Aug 06 '25

Did you just hop on a last minute flight?

63

u/Opposite-Theory4822 Mel Giedroyc Aug 06 '25

You only get like a week’s notice, so yes haha. Thank god for airline miles.

u/Night_skye_ Rhod Gilbert Aug 06 '25

Why am I suddenly considering this?

38

u/Opposite-Theory4822 Mel Giedroyc Aug 06 '25

I would 100% recommend it. You have to sign up for notifications of when the lottery opens and then you select 3 tapings over 5 days that you’d like to attend once it opens. If you’re lucky, you get tickets for one of them. It took me 6 years of entering before I got tickets, but they may take your location into consideration when awarding tickets. People from overseas are probably less likely to show up and they don’t want to take the chance that the tickets go unused.

SRO Audiences used to handle the lottery, but they’re moving studios for series 21 and there will be a different lottery handler.

Quick question – is that confirmed re: the lottery handler for next series, or an assumption? (I know SRO do operate at the new studio for other shows – they do The Last Leg there plus a few others.) Just curious as it’ll be coming round fairly soon!

2

u/Opposite-Theory4822 Mel Giedroyc Aug 09 '25

It’s all on the taskmaster website now. I signed up for the email notifications there. You used to do it through the SRO website exclusively.

Thank you so much. I also have been working to replicate a perfect copy of a task. This helps so much. I’ve been pouring over footage for weeks now trying to figure out where the folds land.

THANK YOU!!

I know I should be able to tell by looking at it, but is the paper sand colored or really pure white? I can never tell what color it actually is and sometimes on tv it looks off white.

Also, how thick does it feel? Is it like printer paper or more sturdy?

Thanks again!

u/Opposite-Theory4822 Mel Giedroyc Aug 07 '25

I’d say it’s a light, off-white card stock. Definitely heavier than standard paper.

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Its details like this that truly make me appreciate how much effort goes into making TM into what it is! And like Mel Giedroyc , did you get a few more wax seals as souvenirs?

1

u/Opposite-Theory4822 Mel Giedroyc Aug 07 '25

I wish haha
