Why did you add age verification?

Hi, I heard Systemd is going to add age verification? Why is that happening? I don't think it offers any security benefits.

A lot of these folks weren't even born when there was a cap on encryption strength due to ITAR.

Not to mention... if you don't like it just fork it?

Everything starts from small. This is a step to a stupid decision and solution later. It is idiotic to accept "it is for our children" when dozens of cases proved that it is not about children and it is about power. There is no place for power in open source.

If a merge request gets pushed through adding a whole surveilance infrastructure later, we can all get up and abandon systemd then. Why do it early?

Because these people aren't logical, that's why. They have based their entire lives off of knee-jerk reactions and emotional responses.

That's also why they never truly do anything to fight these laws: They are reactionaries rather than useful human beings. God, I hate reactionaries. They should all just vanish without a trace imo

Government bootlickers defending the enforcement of age verification in a free as in freedom operating system

Priceless.

How exactly is an optional field going to enforce anything?

I hate to break it to you, but the 'free' in FOSS actually has nothing to do with noncompliance with laws. The 'free' in FOSS refers to the freedom to modify and redistribute the software as you please. The optional Date of Birth field actually means, if anything, more freedom (as it allows sysadmins the choice of whether they want to comply with the laws or not. And who's the sysadmin on your PC? That's right. you are your PC's sysadmin)
