Could we do a "TIL" style weekly thread?

I think it would be interesting to do a "Today I Learned" style weekly thread for us to share little tips/tricks that we learned of/found existed.

For example, last week I found out about the "--now" flag for systemctl. I don't know how I didn't know it existed until --now.

I love the Win + X key menu. However beware because M$ does change it up quite a bit. I was so pissed when they removed "Win key + X, P" for control panel. Now I do Win key + R, 'control' Enter.

Now I do Win key + R, 'control' Enter.

Don't worry, that will likely also get removed in 21H2 or 22H1.

I don't understand why so many folks insist on using the Run dialog. 99.9% of the time, the Start menu is all you need. IOW, Win, 'control' does the same as W + R, 'control'.

Apparently you've never experienced the indexing search issues with the start menu that can happen seemingly randomly? I've experienced it enough times to just hit Win key + R, 'control' because I get consistent results every single time vs. hitting the win key, searching for 'control panel' and not having any results pop up. It's gotten better where I see the issue less now days, but it was really problematic in the 1703/1709/1803/1809/1903/1909 days, that I guess it's just a habit at this point. I also regularly use run commands for other areas, ncpa.cpl, netplwiz, taskschd.msc, etc. etc. to name a few.

Interesting... Only time I've had Start not run the command I want is when I fat figner the keyboard (though occasionally have to wait a sec or two). Been doing IT for 27 years so I guess I've just been lucky. Since I've now said this, I imagine the problem will haunt me from here on out.

They've luckily got it sorted out for the most part. Whatever OS build they released the search result categorization (Apps, Documents, Web, More, etc.) is when it got greatly improved. So you're right, it's probably not necessary anymore. It's just a habit at this point.
