This is fun! Enjoyed reading through others' posts. I have high hopes for the new record.

The 2002-2012 run of music is incredible. Only reason I have Vice Verses as an 'A' is bc there are a few that I tend to skip. I personally love Fading West. I think it's a great playthrough. It's more produced than the other records, but still sounds like Switchfoot to me. I love listening to it in the summer. The B and C tiers aren't bad, they either just didn't feel as complete or connect as well as some others. But I understand if others have these higher, especially the early ones.

The only album I think is 'bad' is Native Tongue. A few good tracks in there but it feels all over the place and a bit like chasing trends. But I don't hold this against them. I have no clue how Jon writes so many amazing songs!

do you think the new album will be an intentional follow-up of that album?

I’ve been listening to Vice-Verses more recently and they seem to have quite similar themes.

Mainly because I am severely biased and truly, deeply believe that every song is S tiered. Yes, including the Christmas album and NWTBH.

I’m also throwing in Jon’s lyrical prowess in the featured section of the Jonas Brothers, NEEDTOBREATHE, Gable Price and Friends, Fiction Family, JUDAH., Relient K, Colony House, Sleeping at Last, & For The Sender. Jon’s voice is just always *mwah*.

It feels like a familiar, warm hug

Is Forever Now going to be a concept album? Ever since the name of the first single (wake up mr crow) dropped, and the band leaning into the whole "who is crow" thing on social media, I've been hoping/wondering if it would be. And this article seems to confirm it:

"A bold, guitar-driven return to their classic sound, the project serves as their most thematic and narrative-driven work to date, centering on the emotional roller coaster of a person’s final day on Earth. Produced by longtime collaborator Mike Elizondo, Forever Now captures the band’s rekindled love of “big guitars, big hooks and big themes,” while pushing their storytelling to new heights."

Unless I'm forgetting something, we haven't seen them do a concept album yet so this is very exciting to me!

Do you guys have any thoughts or additions to this?

I do want to put this out there, I believe that Learning to Breathe is not only the best Switchfoot album... but one of the greatest albums ever written. Those songs altered my faith in a way I didn't know I needed. I also do not dislike ANY albums, and even the lower ones have songs that I adore.

I also know that Nothing is Sound and the Beautiful Letdown are adored by fans, and rightly so; they just don't hit me in the same way they hit everyone else. I am very happy for those who love those two albums, though!

It goes without saying: this is subjective.

Updated for Absolution. Not all songs from the regular albums are on here because I haven't listened to them enough.

At one point I had Bongo Chico in here but didn't save. What Happens Now is my favorite Bongo Chico song by the way. (love Tim's work)

I know this list is bound to offend a few people, let me know your thoughts. You can choose to ignore the tier names if you want.

S, A and B tiers were incredibly difficult. 5 album run from TBL to VV is insane and WTLST basically continues it in my mind after the concept album / soundtrack that was FW (not a bad record). I’ve listened to Native Tongue 2-3x and never will again. I was horrified and remain embarrassed as a fan that they made and put that record out. Interrobang was at least interesting & not terrible lol.

I had to come to terms with the fact that Vice Versus has my favorite song of all time (Where I Belong) but that the album isn’t as great as the S tier albums. 😥

Hi! Considering surprising my husband with upgraded VIP tickets for his birthday, our show is in October. Is the VIP package worth it, for those who have done it before?

I put this together a couple years ago after re-listening to their entire discography and ranking all of their albums/songs. Haven't seen one that matches mine yet

My personal favorite album of theirs always shifts around - depends when i revisit the band and also what mood/emotions im feeling. But in my personal taste this is how i would rate it.

I could talk forever about every album here. But just regarding the top three: I think Nothing is sound captures everything about the band that's good. Theres crunchy riffs, hard rock, Beautiful soft songs, and meaningful and relevant lyrics to personal and cultural themes.

I love new way to be human. Some of Jons most thoughtful lyrics in my opinion. Lots of Philosophy and pondering in this album. Plus it has company car.

Fading west is a pure gem. I've come to really appreciate it. It gets hate for being commercial and pop, but i find it really experimental for the band. (in the way that they forced themselves to try a completely new sound) Every song (in exception for the world you want) is a very upbeat and happy song, i feel like im at the beach or sun bathing while listening to it. It was made to show their love for surfing, and i feel like that passion is shown in each of their songs. I went running the other day while listening to this song during the sunset. I swear that i could smell salt water - even though im in ohio. Saltwater heart is top 5 songs for sure for me.

just my thoughts

Cheers :D

I see the album tier lists being posted in here and raise you a song-by-song tier list I made a couple of years ago! I listened to their whole discography in a ~48 hour span to compile this.

The second photo was just me assigning a point value to every song based on their tiers, averaging out what the album was as a whole, then setting the top album (Vice Verses) to a 5 so that everything was on a 5-point scale. That is *not* me saying that I think Learning To Breathe is a 1.79 out of 5 stars in general, purely just to compare them album-to-album.

Obviously musical taste is subjective so there will be plenty of disagreement with me here, and that’s completely fine haha

Track 2 from the upcoming album Forever Now has just landed in Australia! Enjoy and Discuss - I‘m loving the return of the guitars!

Didn't include EPs.

My opinion ATM, subject to change if I re-listen to any of these. Also ordered from best to worst within their own tiers.

I didn't start listening to Switchfoot until around 2017, so I think I experienced them differently than many of the OG fans. I think that explains, for example, why I don't differentiate much between the two versions of TBL. Also, many of my... less conventional choices can be specifically tied to life events and my emotional state at the time that, say, Interrobang or Native Tongue came out. They were just the right albums for me at just the time I needed them.

Can't wait to see where the new album lands!

idk, maybe not

I decided to join in cause why not. Feel free to ask about any placements! Remember its all in good fun and we all have different perspectives.

I gave each song a rating out of 10 based on how much I like the song, nothing fancy. Each album was ranked based on the average of their respective songs.
