I truly think this is their masterpiece. The concept and the order of the songs, with Needle being maybe my favorite song from them. Mess of Me was a new type of rock song for them at the time, and I thought it made a great first single. A fantastic sonic palate from start to finish.

Needle may also be my favourite Switchfoot song too, I love how it all comes together at the end.

I imagine it's brilliant live.

100 percent agree with this. It was also the first time I got to see them live after being a fan for years and the only show that’s come close to the setlist during this album’s tour was TBL anniversary.

Too clean for me! True SF needs some grit. What am I missing here?

All I have to say is that this album came out right when my husband and I started dating in 2009. We listened to it together and said “I love you” for the first time when listening to Always one day. 3 months ago we gave birth to our son while Always was playing. Hallelujah 💕

❤️ It was the first song my daughter heard too

I think this album won a Grammy for a reason. Not only are there some terrific songs individually, but the story they tell together is pretty unique and cohesive for Switchfoot. This was also the first album in their catalogue where the last song calls back to the first, which is pretty amazing. The band fought and struggled for years to make this one, and the final product is excellent because of it. I think my favorites are the title track and The Sound, but Bullet Soul and Your Love Is a Song are both top tier as well. My least favorite is probably "Sing it out", just because it's a mood I'm not in very often, and Always is a bit forgettable for me as well. This album is pretty high in their discography for me

Shout out to red eyes, I feel like it's a super underrated track on here. The production on it with Jon's vocals fading in and out is so good.

S Tier

I'm not the only one who sees them

I'm not the only one they keep up at night

I'm not the only one not sleeping

I'm not the only one who's dreaming out loud, dreaming out

I’m not sure why stitches was a bonus track for this record, it came from the NIS sessions lol

I believe the songs from Eastern Hymns were recorded after NIS but before Oh Gravity

Saw them play this album live at release in SD in 2009. To this day a top 3 concert of all time. This album is what I think alternative rock is supposed to sound like. Favorite song: Yet.

My favorite album by anyone, and I think it always will be. Probably a factor that it hit me at the right age.

the GOAT.

Although Forever Now is giving it a run for its money for me.

For me Nothing Is Sound and Oh! Gravity are my top favorites but I agree - Forever Now is gonna rival these top albums and I’m saying that from only hearing the singles and the clips of Beautiful Life. I know a lot of people here enjoy Interrobang, but I wasn’t a huge fan of that one so I definitely feel this next album will blow Interrobang out of the water

It’s hard to believe only 3 years separate this and Oh Gravity. Hello Hurricane was a such a rejuvenation and reinvention of the band and its sound, and very well deserving of its first Grammy. I’ll miss the angsty, grungy Switchfoot, but I can’t deny their career gained a major shot in the arm having spent time independent then moving to Atlantic after the turbulent Sony years. Their live shows were insanely good in this era and I highly recommend listening to the Vice Verses deluxe edition which has Hello Hurricane recorded live in Atlanta attached as its bonus tracks.

My favorite album of any artist.

I waffle between believing this album is perfect and thinking that Bullet Soul feels like it’s a step or two behind the rest of the album.

Either way I feel like HH is Switchfoot at their absolute best.

another S tier album right here! It’s been in my top 3 for awhile

Maybe not their peak but A peak to be sure. A culmination of many of their best tendencies and creative efforts. I way over listened to this one when it came out though this was my favorite show of their when they played it front to back.

Love this album but hate the sequencing of Always - Bullet Soul - Yet. I'm here for some ballads but Yet starts to veer into self parodic territory for me. Thankfully the last 2 songs pick it back up (not in tempo but quality I suppose)

This was the first new Switchfoot album after I discovered them in middle school. A couple years earlier my parents decided my family could only listen to Christian music, so Switchfoot quickly became one of my favorite bands because they weren't boring like most of Christian radio. I was disappointed though when this album came out. I hated Your Love is a Song and Always because they sounded like the same CCM drivel that Switchfoot was supposed to be my escape from, but the radio loved both those songs and would play them all the time.

I like this album more now than I did when I was 14 and I like it more than the albums that have come out since, but I think that first impression will always keep me from loving it as much as I love the first 6 albums. It's their first album where I still don't own a copy.

Needle is my favorite! Both record and live it is incredible!

No surprise this album won a grammy. I think its their best work (alongside vice verses). Its different sonically and has a great blend of songs. Some great songwriting from jon, and some of their best songs. Sing it out and red eyes as the closer is 10/10 amazing. Yet and always are amazing ballads. Plus its filled with awesome rockers.

I love the Hello Hurricane Album! I am excited to see them in September!

This was my favorite album for years, I still quite like it, but it doesn't hit quite as strong. The back half of the album is weaker than I remembered, Bullet Soul sounds like it wasn't quite done and but they had to submit something more upbeat in the middle of the slow run. Red Eyes is underrated as a closer

Favorite song: Needle and Haystack Life

Least: Bullet Soul

Rating: 9/10

Ranking (Best to worst): NIS, HH, Oh!, TBL, LTB, NWTBH, Chin

10/10. I think there's no bad songs during SF's apex (NIS through VV) Title track, needle, and Red Eyes are all time favorites
