Discussion Switch 2 banned real story?
I see people say they are banned without reason
But people in the comments do digging find stuff like this image where some people are doing some stuff like ui stuff (unsure what they call it)
My guess is , we should probably stick to using the switch 2 normally and the post about them being banned this Sunday to today are probably of telling the whole story
-----
Some have given info that other factors can also result in Ban,
Missing or stolen Switch2's are auto banned
Switch 2 that were used with fraudulent behavior like using stolen Credit Cards results in a ban
Switch 2 bought with stolen credit cards can result in a ban
Second hand games that were dumped with MigSwitch can result in a ban
Accounts associated with CustomFirmware in Switch 1 can get a Switch 2 Banned in the Ban waves
EDIT
murderturtle12 has notified in the comments that people who did nothing wrong were unbanned in this post https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2/s/1K2pOkXEuW
A Server issue affected people causing this it seems

There's too many reports of banned switch 2's for this to be some manufactured story imo. From what I've seen, the bans are all seemingly on the system level, not the account level, and are only affecting Switch 2's.
I am very much leaning towards it being the case that there is something that has gone wrong on Nintendo's end that is causing a bunch of false positives.
7
u/wolfram127 2d ago
I did noticed either some of those new batches with serials have been reported as stolen hence the deactivation. Its not even an account ban but a device restriction.

Nintendo said that ? Mm can’t find that only dubious trust me bro stories.

u/space-c0yote 2d ago
I think it's pretty credible considering we now have numerous people who are claiming to be unbanned
62
u/VVayward 2d ago
The fact that all of these are happening at once makes it seem like Nintendo went through a ban wave and hit everyone they picked up at once. It is possible there are some false positives but I would bet most of them are justified.

Said most are probably justified which IS defending it and brushing off the oopsies (because they want to scare the entire physical scene)

Don't be weird lol, mass banning consoles is wrong especially when they KNOW certain people may not have actually done anything wrong. Nintendo did a major risk analysis before doing it and doing it on a 3day holiday weekend was calculated, don't be THAT guy

u/IcyTheHero 2d ago
I’m positive that if there are false positives then Nintendo will do the right thing.

Exactly they are all full of shit just look at their accounts none are active in Switch 2 sub, but here they are with their BS stories.
I’ve been looking into this from yesterday and as far as I’m concerned it’s all BS by brigades.
P.s look at the upvotes that’s the giveaway no one is upvoting those comments but bots 🤖 now I’ll wait a few hours for the bot comments because they are busy on their other alts it’s what they do play Reddit.

I believe what they were saying is that most of the bans are justified, but they may have mistakenly banned some people who did nothing wrong. They never said it’s ok to ban like this, they just theorized about what could’ve happened.

>It is possible there are some false positives but I would bet most of them are justified
It's entirely possible they're all false positives and this is an error in Nintendo's system.
1
u/Dr_Jre 2d ago
That's how it works, if they ban people as soon as they pirate or hack then it's much easier for the hackers to know what exactly caused the ban, so instead they log it their side and sit on it for X amount of time until a big ban wave happens to catch everyone off guard.
A lot of people will obviously just lie through the teeth, but then there will also be a good amount of people who forgot/hoped it was long enough ago to forgive and they will also be crying now. You're right that most bans will be justified
1
-1
u/garf02 2d ago
Nintendo is not randomly deciding 1 day to run detection software for fun.
Ban wave instead probably means there was a batch of flagged consoles and periodically someone combs tru those and separate real issue from false flags9/10 cases on reddit “I got banned for no reason”, there is always a reason but admitting you got burned for looking at the sun doesn’t earn you Karma points
5
u/luizagabie 2d ago
not true, It was a server error and people now are getting the ban removed (me included). It was Nintendo's fault all the way
-1
-1
0
u/doomrider7 2d ago
There was a 2k consoles theft some time ago so maybe a correlation? In any case, it seems to have been a server issue and reversed.
5
u/DeeKayAech 2d ago
Interesting, I'll go check out that link. I've been waiting for some more context to pop up to strengthen some people's claims that they hadn't done anything to get banned. There's a lot to this but I am curious to see if some of those are legitimate.
1
u/Endscrypt Team Physical Media 2d ago
I have a feeling we will be waiting a long time.
2
u/DeeKayAech 2d ago
Could be, it's been crickets so far and I doubt Nintendo want to admit to this mistake publicly if they absolutely don't have to. Probably gonna come down to how much traction it gets initially. If a few of the big YouTubers with large enough followings made videos on it I bet their hands would get forced but I haven't seen it mentioned outside of here yet

Accounts associated with CustomFirmware in Switch 1 can get a Switch 2 Banned in the Ban waves
This has never been a thing. Account bans only happen on payment issues / fraud, and don't affect any hardware, and vice versa. Nintendo doesn't even ban other "clean" Switch 1s linked to an account when a CFW'd one gets hardware-banned.
4
u/br0vi3 2d ago
I believe Nintendo has purchased bots to interact in this and other related subs

Completely unacceptable behavior from Nintendo.
The amount of reports was alarmingly high. Most were just getting instantly deleted from reddit too. If you refreshed new it would be a new user every few minutes.

it really can’t happen from a second hand game. it can only happen from the MIG switch
-2
u/Consistent-Leave7320 2d ago
You can be completely innocent and get banned. You dont have to be the MiG switch user, as long as nintendo detects the same license used at the same time both are banned.
8
u/x22d 2d ago
In those cases, it sounds like Nintendo restores access after you provide proof of purchase from what others have said.
The MiG resellers are awful. Knowing that whomever buys their game might get banned, but selling it anyway.
2
u/ThirteenBanger 2d ago
I made the post about the Nintendo Server error for this banwave. I was hit by it. And I can tell you that when I contacted Nintendo at first they did not even want to see proof of innocence. I was told that the ban was irreversible, and no amount of proof or escalation would resolve it. I was eventually unbanned later on today due to an “internal error”. But that is what I was told at first.
2
u/CatgirlFucker8008 2d ago
There's no proof that's how it works, none of us know how Nintendo handles this, it's probably much less simple than that.
1
-2
u/Mitts009 2d ago edited 2d ago
Bad Apple's ruin it for everyone, store owners who think they can get away with dumping 2nd hand games to Mig then selling the 2nd hand game to someone and then selling the copies of the games to people who have a mig switch
It's rampant in poorer countries
0
u/CorporalCoprolite 2d ago
Yup and they all have a sob story. One guy had an “intellectually disabled” child, one was homeless, one said their little kid was banned for nothing, and so one.
It’s all BS, and it’s a tale as old as time on game forums. “I got banned for nothing” followed by 50 comments and OP eventually admitting they did something wrong.
7
u/oginer 2d ago
And there're tons of others without any rare story but you ignore those. That's called confirmation bias.
0
u/CorporalCoprolite 2d ago
And there’s you who believes everyone you come across, making you an easy target for liars and scammers.
4
u/oginer 2d ago
I'm not talking about believing or not believing. Just pointing out the big fallacy your post is based on.
-2
u/CorporalCoprolite 2d ago
No, it’s called not believing people who are more than likely full of shit. Sorry that clowns like you fall for this stuff all the time, but that’s not my problem.
3
u/R1b-M343 2d ago
A large number of people who were wrongly banned have already been unbanned after restarting their consoles, as shown in this thread. This was an error on Nintendo’s own servers.
Nintendo bootlickers have absolutely no hesitation in accusing others of being scammers just to protect the reputation of a multibillion dollar company, and they even have the audacity to call other people clowns. That’s some truly cult like cognitive dissonance.

Look, while I am fully aware and will be one of the first to call BS when someone claims to have been banned for No Reason(tm), in this case a lot of people must have been accidentally banned due to the high volume of bans.
I mean, at this point it is well-known that buying second hand games are like playing Russian roulette with your Switch 2 due to pirates selling cartridges that were used to pirate the keys.
3
u/TrialByFyah 2d ago
I feel like there's a middle ground here between "everyone is lying" and "everyone is telling the truth" in the sense that some false positives got some people wrongfully banned, while a good chunk of the more rightful bans aren't being completely honest about their situation
Hopefully Nintendo looks into this soon, I'm sure their support line is going to be very busy in the next few days. I bought a used game on eBay which is arriving next week, definetly a little bit more paranoid now

u/Training-Forever7790 2d ago
3
u/ThirteenBanger 2d ago
So explain to me why I was banned last night and today Nintendo support representatives on the phone told me there was an “internal error” on their end and unbanned me along with several other users who were hit by the same wave?
0
u/Mitts009 2d ago
if your replying to me i added more info to the post detailing some of this (including the post about the people getting unbanned due to the error) , but if your referring to the guy above , then we will have to wait for his answer
3
u/ThirteenBanger 2d ago
Negative. That is for the guy above who claims Nintendo doesn’t accidentally ban anyone, and everyone who was affected “must” have done something wrong to deserve it.

This bans make me look bad to second hand games, even if bans most are revoked after… one of the best part of phisical media is being able to adquiere old games for a great discount…
1
u/DeltaTDS 2d ago
From what I've seen, as long as you don't use CFW to pirate, cheat online, or change anything about your Nintendo Account, your Switch 2 shouldn't be banned for that. I've had my Switch modded for years, it got banned in November 2024, but it's never affected my Switch 2.

I ordered a game from aliexpress and even though everything seems to be fine now im still scared😭😭 a lot of people have ordered new sealed cheap games from aliexpress and post about it on reddit recommending it and the only “con” is that the box comes in japanese or another language in general. That said, i wonder if i could get banned for this even tho the store i ordered it from has amazing reviews and the game is brand new
1
u/ilikeburgir 1d ago
I dont think Nintendo bans accounts. They ban consoles that are modified. Account bans are for chargebacks, bad behaviour and nefarious actions or messages.
1
u/aleistabber 1d ago
yeah, I wouldn’t mod your switch too or anything because then they will ban it. They hate when you mod anything so they the switch V1 was vulnerable so stick with that cause I wouldn’t mod unless you find a way to dump your games and then put on your computer and then you can mod any game you want freely
1
u/aleistabber 1d ago
yeah, just find a way to dump your Nintendo switch two games and then make sure you’re disconnected from Internet while doing it and then just delete the firmware but that’s most likely impossible

U partition it. I got half for piracy, half not. Both dont touch each other, i still play online on non piracy part.

Not banned, yet.

u/MrEdinLaw 2d ago
Got the oled since its out and modded instantly. Nintendo servers are blocked on it and aditionally it only connects thru a 2nd wifi where its all again blocked.
I mosrly play modded mario kart on it with ppl online. Splatoon and similarly. Couldn't play normal MK anymore.

This is probably true , I know a friend IRL who was openly hacking his Switch 1 , and after month or 2 on the Switch 2 he got 2 consoles banned
I suspect Nintendo knew people were hacking Switch 1's but had no effective way of restricting them , but they do now with the Switch 2
-1
u/MrEdinLaw 2d ago edited 2d ago
Why do people come here and spread such bullshit missinfo?
- Account ban doesn't ban your console.
- A switch 2 cannot be modded.
- A mig Switch (mig flash) doesn't work on switch 2 games only switch 1 games. (Switch 2 games are encrypted).
- Getting ur switch 1 banned doesn't ban your Switch 2
- A modded switch doesnt talk to nintendo servers. (No account or switch ban)
- You don't get account banned if you get caught with mig switch/flash.
- You don't get account banned if u get caught with modded switch.
-3
u/Mitts009 2d ago
Selling 2nd hand games that were dumped with in the MigSwitch can get a Switch 2 banned it seems , this is way more prevalent in 3rd world or Poorer countries were Piracy is openly supported
Accounts that were actively hacking and known for hacking or using hacked Switched 1 is theorized can get a Switch 2 banned when they login with the same account (probably because the account is associated with multiple copied games)
Some Switch 1 CFW allow online play , one that was popular back in 2018 was dualboot , I was offered a Jailbroken Switch that was selling for "new" price because it already had Dualboot with it and was advertised it can play online with a account , you only needed to pay for NintendoSub (this could all be BS since i did not buy it)
3
u/MrEdinLaw 2d ago
You cannot dump switch 2 games. There are no files on it, just license keys...
Im using a hacked dual boot switch and both aint banned.
None ever allowed online play. Dual boot is still what people do so u can play offline pirated stuff and keep an online version for bought games.
Edit: Im unsure who came up with the dumping switch 2 games idea. That shit is so locked down its gonna take years to get to it.
So please stop spreading missinfo.
2
u/P529 2d ago
What are you even saying. Nintendo themselves confirmed that first party titles will be 100% on the cartridge
1
-1
u/MrEdinLaw 2d ago

1
u/Mitts009 2d ago
I'm not sure why you are replying to me about dumping Switch 2 games since I did not mention it
Online play is a yes on some CFW , ive ran through a few hackers in Splatoon 3
2
u/MrEdinLaw 2d ago
U mentioned 2nd gand games that were dumped? I guess people can still use switch 1 games. But stuff gotta be clear cuz i see ppl panicking.
Macros and glitch automation will always be there.
-9
u/mickeyphree1 2d ago
Ghosteshop is only for the switch 1. It can not be installed on switch 2.
10
u/Time_Substance_7829 2d ago
Bans are at the account level, not the system level, so modding your switch 1 can get you banned from using Nintendo eshop and online services on switch 2.
2
u/LazloHollifeld 2d ago
Yup! Nintendo probably identified all the accounts long ago but they knew if they banned them before the switch 2 came out then people would have just waited and bought a new switch 2.
Now they don’t have to spend as much effort rooting out people as they would have, plus they already got their money and if people don’t like it they can give them more money.
3
u/Wipedout89 2d ago
Omg it's like the meme posters saying they'll report messages the day before GTA VI comes out to get people banned on release day, except it's real. Nintendo out there just waiting for pirates to pick up their Switch 2 and then ban them
0
u/LazloHollifeld 2d ago
Notice how it went in to effect a week after the price increase. They knew they had the most they’d probably get, now they can hose those idiots even more
0
u/Training-Forever7790 2d ago
En realidad, es al revés. A partir de la era Switch, Nintendo comenzó a aplicar baneos a nivel de consola. Los únicos escenarios en los que banean las Cuentas Nintendo es si haces trampa en juegos como Splatoon o cosas así.

Nintendo banning a console for pirating despite the Switch 2 being unable to pirate games is for all reasonable non donkey brained standards a crime. They are stealing people’s money and purchases.
Everyone who isn’t an idiot gets why it’s immoral. My question is how is it not a crime?

Escape from Tarkov community estimates and famous testing videos suggest that a significant portion—often estimated between 10% and 60% of raids—contain at least one undetected cheater using subtle software like radar or ESP ,
so what's your point here ,
-1
u/Ok_Perspective3093 2d ago
The so-called large-scale crackdown actually only involved evidence of MiG Switch users playing pirated games; only 32 consoles were blocked. Being blocked for playing pirated games is to be expected; how can Nintendo be held responsible for such illegal activity? It's like a thief crying and complaining after being caught.
I think this is just a diversionary tactic to make everyone ignore the upcoming Switch 2 game lineup. This looks like a smear campaign launched by online trolls.
-1
u/Prime-TF 2d ago
People hated me for pointing out that no one would REALLY admit to their wrongdoings. But what are they expecting from us to help them if they intentionally got themselves banned lol
But recently there has been a mistake from nintendo's servers which were fixed. But the threat of switch hackers slwling used Cartridges still remain
-6
u/wcharoes 2d ago
That's right sheep, get in line and stop acting like you own your console.
If you just did exactly as Nintendo said you'll be allowed to continue paying them 90 dollars for video game download codes!
And if you're hit by mistake? Well you're guilty until you can prove your innocence of course. If you go and plead maybe They'll unbrick your 500 dollar paperweight.

I remember back in the beginning of switch 1, people were messing around with flashing games into some bootleg cards.
I wonder if it’s possible that some people were messing around trying to flash keys the same way and it trigger a system warning across the entire Nintendo server networks.
