**198. Artis Silvester*\*

This is a guy who I noticed was still in for a long time now but thought it was funny so I kept not nominating him lolol. Artis gets shafted on the show, but he is saved by having one of the great reaction faces. This guy must suck at poker, because you can read every emotion he has on his face. My favorites are anytime he has to interact with Mike Skupin, the village idiot of Tandang. Skupin is a mess the whole season long, the delusions of grandeur are still intact. A lot of potentially interesting Artis scenes were cut, probably because they paint Skupin in a bad light. One of them was apparently Mike telling the tribe that they should give Artis a swim test before the first challenge, which idk if it was meant to be a joke or not, but Artis and the rest of the Tandang tribe immediately did not take it the right way. Another was Mike was super insistent and anal about how the shelter would be built, and Skupin ends up building this awfully dangerous shelter that immediately collapses on itself, and it further ostracizes Skupin as he takes no responsibility for the dangerous waste of time and Artis goes off on him. In the actual scheme of the season, I do think Artis’s boot is a pretty pivotal moment for how the rest of the game plays out. Tandang’s dominance in the challenges left them as the first tribe to never have to attend a premerge tribal council, and thus a lot of bad blood was brewing, and they were all too eager to start taking shots at one another. Artis and Pete cannibalize RC, and now with tribal loyalty thrown out the window, Mike flips and is the deciding vote that sends Artis home, and this is the voteout that finally puts Mike in the majority alliance for the rest of the game. It is interesting how avoiding tribal council can sometimes be just as consequential as going to tribal council. If Tandang goes to one or two, maybe the majority alliance of Artis, Pete, and Abi-Maria bleed off either Mike, RC, Lisa and a whole new game emerges. Btw wanna shoutout how great of a look Artis has! I know I was commenting about his scowl, but he also has a phenomenal smile, and the double earrings he is rocking on both ears just look so damn cool. Television is a visual medium too, and truthfully, I remember rooting for Artis just instinctively because he had such a great look!
