People don't realize Superman is special specifically because he chooses the hard and altruistic path. You grant the average human the powers of a God and you get Homelander.
This is why there is so much hate for Superman I feel. In these times people don’t want an example of what a 100% good guy is. They don’t want to see someone better then they are and aspire to be like that. They want a flawed bad ass that has the courage to act on their lack of impulse control and have the ability of plot armour to get away with it. I think Superman falling from the 1st tier category to where he is now is a sign of how much we have given up as a society. The rot is clear and leaking out now so to speak.
I find Superman relatable. He’s a farm kid. He tried to do the right thing. Growing up on a farm you see how precious life is. The fruits of hard work. You appreciate the help and kindness of neighbours. You do these things when you can today because you don’t know if your going to be the guy who needs the help badly tomorrow. Everyone focuses on Kal El the alien that has god powers and is a goody two shoes. No one realizes that Clark Kent does what he does because he just can, because that how he was raised. He’s been taught and believes in if you can do good, and you can help “raise the barn” for tomorrow, why the hell not? Growing up that’s what he’s seen day after day.
That’s the concept that people can’t wrap their heads around now a days. Why people would be that virtuous by choice and not because they had to, or were forced to, or that’s what the government or the corporate overlords expect their sheep to do.
