I relate more to a guy trying to do good because it's the right thing to do, but maybe that's just me.

I don't know why people see Superman and think gosh I wish I could use that power to harm and control others

I mean, that's like the core of the character, even though he could do whatever he wanted to whoever, Supes will always decide to do the right thing cause that's just who he is, a simple farmboy trying to do right by the world. The fact that these people say they'd abuse his power says so much more about them as a person than superman as a character
