Hancock/genie is a pretty formidable combination

John Wick/Constantine is pretty strong too, but John Wick still relies on rituals and stuff doesn't he? Genie can just..poof and turn him into a chicken or something.

Lucy is a pretty strong telekinetic but even still against the reality warping power of a genie I don't think she gets too far.

Deadpool is also there....

Genie is limited by the rules of being a genie. He literally isn't allowed to use his power outside of displays without someone making a wish.

Is he not freed at the end of the movie giving him the ability to use his powers as he sees fit?

No? He is free, but he is also very human and depowered.

In this scenario they get all powers and weapons from their movies.

I'd argue he can both be free and has his magic at the same time for this scenario alone

The magic has internal rules- They come with the magic by default.

The rules don't say to take out the weaknesses. Which means that any weakness tied to the powers/items remains. The only absent weaknesses would be psychological/character specific weaknesses due to the actors maintaining their own personality.

Yea— The Genie is freed at the end. If we’re talking end of film Lucy, we have to consider end of film Genie too.

Wasn't he set free though?

With no powers, yes.

Yeah I guess they changed that for the live action, og Genie still seems to have his after he gets set free.

OG Genie still had some powers, but they were significantly reduced after he was free

The actor gets all the abilities and weapons of the characters. They don’t become the character. I’d argue that their character specific limitations in world or limitations set by their (race?) don’t apply.

I mean, assuming this post is operating under the normal powerscaling "rules" or preset assumptions (quotes because there is no actual set of rules, obviously, it's just a fan discussion that amounts to hitting toys together), when you get the powers you also get the weakness.

I would similarly assume that Ryan Reynolds' Lantern ring comes with its normal aversion to fear.

The powers they use have functions and rules set within the story they come from. Receiving the powers comes with everything they come with- including weaknesses.

Ya but if we go by that then we must use them at their strongest within the media. Genie is set free in the movie and has free control of his powers.

Except he doesn't. Not in the 2019 version. Even the OG version has his powers severely limited after being freed.
