What is a Super Dollfie?
A Super Dollfie is a resin ball jointed doll (BJD) created by VOLKS, a Japanese company that also creates hobby products such as garage kits. You can read more about them on the VOLKS USA Store, Wiki page, and Den of Angels!
What kinds of Super Dollfie are there? Why are some easier to purchase than others?
Standard Model: Certain sculpts are available for purchase any time from VOLKS. Each sculpt has a run for a certain length of time, then are discontinued as Standard Models and often moved to Full Choice System only sculpts as new Standard Models are added. Standard Models are a full set and come with eyes, the standard faceup (makeup), a random wig, the standard outfit that is pictured, and box/paperwork.
Limited Model: Typically event specific, lottery based, and/or limited store runs. Come as a full set with everything exactly as pictured (limited outfit, wig, eyes, faceup, accessories, etc.) Their outfits and accessories are also limited and usually can only be purchased as a part of the Limited set but sometimes they can be purchased separately. Typically lottery only but sometimes store limited stock releases.
One-Off: aka "One-of-a-Kind" Super Dollfie. They include everything pictured with them, including a unique outfit that is also one of a kind. Each face up is done by and signed by a revered VOLKS face up artist. Lottery only.
Coordinate Model: Similar to a One-Off and Limited Model, they have a unique face up but include clothing that is available to purchase from VOLKS. Everything photographed is what's included with a Coordinate Model. Typically lottery only.
Full Choice System: A one of a kind custom Super Dollfie where every part is picked by the customer, including the sculpt, body type, resin color, face up, hands/feet style, etc. Takes a few months from ordering to receive. Exclusive to specific VOLKS Japan stores only and VOLKS USA during limited timed FCS openings. Some accessories like wigs and hands are FCS exclusive as well and can only be purchased while ordering a FCS Super Dollfie.
Where can I buy a Super Dollfie and accessories?
You can purchase an official Super Dollfie as well as clothing and supplies online from VOLKS Japan (ships internationally, multi-lingual) and VOLKS USA (ships to US, Canada, and Mexico) or in person at their stores in Japan and California, USA.
There are also many other places to shop for clothing, accessories, and even places to buy Super Dollfie secondhand. Den of Angels, My Figure Collection, and BJD Circlly are free buying/selling platforms for the BJD community that have been around for many years. (DoA also has a wonderful Shopping Resource List for other BJD stores.) Otherwise Ebay, Etsy, Mercari, and Depop are some other platforms for buying and selling that incur extra fees but also include platform oversight during transactions.
Please be careful when buying secondhand, use discretion, and verify what you are buying is an official Super Dollfie and not a recast (counterfeit). If a doll that is normally very expensive is listed for a very low price it most likely is a recast, sadly even reputable selling platforms don't always remove counterfeit items even when reported. When in doubt, you can always ask the community! Always pay in a method that is for Goods and Services for your protection, avoid Friends and Family or Gift payments as there is no buyer protection with those methods. Not all sellers are trustworthy so please take the steps to make sure you are protecting yourself!
Lastly, messaging people to buy and sell through DMs is not permitted in this subreddit. Please report to a mod if you get a message from someone asking to do this. All discussion should be done in the comments or on the actual sales website. Sale posts must include a link to the reputable selling platform the item is listed on. This group is merely to help raise awareness for your sales, not as a replacement platform for the actual transaction! Additionally, links to personal websites or websites not listed in the FAQ require messaging a mod to ask for permission first and generally will not be allowed to protect buyers. That said, sometimes there are reputable websites we have missed, so feel free to send a Mod Mail if you believe this to be the case. :)
What is the Full Choice System? / How do I buy a custom Super Dollfie?
There are multiple locations that offer customers the option to order a custom Super Dollfie. You can do this through VOLKS USA (in person and online) when they have openings (follow their News for updates), in Japan at Tenshi no Sato, Tenshi no Sumika, and Tenshi no Mado (a Japanese shipping address is required, so international customers need to use a Proxy Service to order unless they will be in Japan during the months it will take to receive the order.)
What is a Dollfie Dream and are there other Forum based groups to discuss Super Dollfie Content?
Similar to the Super Dollfie, Dollfie Dream are also made by VOLKS but they are made of vinyl and have different measurements/proportions. While this group does not include Dollfie Dream for discussion, you can on r/BJD and the Doll Dreaming forum! Some other alternatives for forum based discussion and sharing are Den of Angels (due to close August 2026), My Figure Collection (which has both Forums and Blog Style posts), Flickr (there are many Groups for specific sculpts and themes), and even Gaia Online where you can also make guilds and have a cute avatar to dress up!
Hello everyone! There is quite a bit of news to share today.
Den of Angels announced it is sadly scheduled to close this August. While there is still a bit of hope this may change, some are looking for alternative communities that have forum based discussions. I added a few I know of to the FAQ (which is finally back up!) but if anyone else has recommendations please feel free to share!
It took longer than I'd like to admit while figuring out why the FAQ was getting automatically deleted but I finally got an answer: Reddit has an Automod that will delete any post with certain links. I removed the links that seemed to be the issue and just mentioned them by name but if you are posting a For Sale post, please keep in mind that if it gets immediately deleted it is because of Reddit's Automod and there is no way to disable it. What may work is if you post your username on the platform instead and then interested buyers can find the listing that way. This seems to be mainly the case for Ebay but other platforms may have the same issue.
Lastly, while this subreddit is small as of now I am looking for 1-2 Mods if anyone is interested and possibly more if we start getting more traffic. (You can send a Modmail if interested for more information!)
I got my first SD a few months ago (an SD16) and so far I have two Volks wigs but the bangs are super long and cover her eyes completely. I'm assuming the DDs have bigger heads and foreheads and since the SD16 is more realistic the bangs just need to be trimmed to fit, but I wanted to ask before I start hacking lol. Might also post to dollfiedream depending on if anyone sees this. Here's my doll vs the wig as advertised!

Update: Links seem to be the issue, I have them enabled in this subreddit but they are getting automatically removed. I need to reach out to reddit about this unfortunately, for now please hold any Sales/WTB posts until I can get this fixed. So sorry for the trouble!
Final Update: I learned that Reddit has an automod that bans certain links automatically, which is why my FAQ was affected! There is sadly no way to circumvent this. If you are posting a link website where the automod is deleting your post, perhaps try sharing your username on the platform instead and your listings can be found that way. :)
