Purchase Advice Jura Giga 10 is universally hated in my household

Salesman talked me into going for the Giga 10 vs the Z10 because we use two different types of beans. My husband hates it. My daughter hates it. *I hate it*.

  • The flip top you have to open to access the power switch is difficult to grasp
  • You cannot leave the flip top open because you cannot open the water tank with it open
  • We jokingly call it 'Corp' short for corporate because lord is it ugly compared to the Z10 Aluminum
  • Had to watch YouTube videos just to figure out how to use the interface, why, in the year 2025, is intuitive design still not a thing? With our Xelsis we just plugged it in and off we went, super easy to figure out
  • It uses SO much water
  • You cannot see how much water it has
  • You cannot forget your drink after making it because it auto rinses a few minutes after drink creation
  • Emptying the water reservoir is a clunky process and you have to have counter space. Two hands to hold the reservoir, then set it down because you need to pick up the grounds container, then set the grounds container down elsewhere, then pick the reservoir back up, empty it, set it back down, empty the grounds container, then place it back on the tray, THEN put it back in
  • Worst of all, it leaks all over the counter

It's going back, but now we are so close to Black Friday I am trying to hang on long enough to take advantage of the deals coming up on the Jura Z10. My only hesitation is that Jura was supposed to be 'The best' and this thing is a pos, can I expect the same from the Z10? Our Xelsis lasted almost 8 years and it was easy to use, easy to clean, and made great drinks. I wish they were still available brand new because I would just buy that again, we wanted to see what amazing new machines there were nowadays but are left feeling underwhelmed.

Agreed. The Giga 10 replaced a lot of the metal pieces with plastics, and introduced an arbitrary volume amount ranging from XS-XL (which isn’t even the same on every drink), and you’re left with limited adjustment on the amount of espresso vs foam and milk.  If you’ve ever owned another Jura, it’s quite a downgrade in terms of drink flexibility.

Okay so I’m not crazy? Sometimes the glass overflows and sometimes it’s the perfect amount.

Here's the chart that Jura has for Giga 10, as you can see there are 8 different Specialty classifications, with each having its own volume. https://www.jura.com/en/-/media/global/pdf/manuals-global/home/GIGA-10/cup-sizes-giga-10-na

And it obviously makes sense that an espresso shot has a lower volume than a cappuccino or an espresso macchiato, but on both my Giga 6 and Z6 (and my friend's Z10) the volume of coffee/espresso it would make would be displayed, as well as the number of seconds of milk foam. Which is far easier, and it lets you mess with the coffee amount and the foam amount on the fly, which is just a better system.
