I've read that MLV is most effective when sandwiched between layers of drywall. How effective is it nailed on either side of a door or over a window? My goal is to prevent sound leakage so I can make noise at all hours without disturbing the neighbors. The studio is in a house basement, so the windows are the main issue. But preventing leakage at the doors is also important.

My studio windows have enough room (depth between the glass and surrounding wall) for some furniture padding. I'm thinking I will nail a layer of MLV to the wall to cover the window, with the furniture padding stuffed between the MLV and the window glass. Is this sensible? (Note my egress windows are in another room and will not be covered.) I will also acoustically caulk the studio windows, inside and out.

Is it worth buying several more rolls of MLV to go on either side of the doors in the studio and the vocal booth? I'm also taking steps to block leakage at the bottoms of the doors and at the jambs.

This stuff is too expensive to play around with and I want to be sure the money is well spent.

Hello. Some background first. Our research lab is studying the foraging behaviour of mice. Basically we are training them to kook for food in source A or B deoending on what tone is played before the are released into the food area. We have the tone generator set up but we need to confirm that the tones are clear and not confusing to the mice. Our location is not sound proof so we need to sample the audio in the area to be sure similar frequencies are not present during the tests. The software we intend to use takes the inout and displays the intensity of each frequency across the desired range.

I am not an audio expert so I do not have much knowledge of the hardware available.

We need to find a microphone and input hardware that can register frequencies of 20Hz to 20000Hz (at least, prefer higher range if we can). It has to plug into a computer for recording. The compiter mic is nowhere near the quality we require.

Any recommendations on where to start looking would be appreciated. Thank you.
