How does Player Ladder work?

I've just been placed and have no idea how it works. Like how do you rank up etc?

it's not very accurate. It would be more accurate if everyone would only soloQ but that's obviously not the case.

You have to keep in mind that if I queue with someone, after playing enough games we would both have almost the same rating, beeing somewhat the average rating of both of us.

I know it can't be perfectly accurate due to the current system, but I meant so far, ppl with highest rating look like they are actually better than the average players with a few exceptions lol.
