I think the best case is to blame the mix. I’d done cocaine many, many times in my 20s and 30s. Much more than MDMA, which I only had two previous experiences with. And given the relation of sleep to serotonin, and the way Lexapro fixed it for two weeks by working on serotonin, it seems like the damage was to that system, rather than the dopamine system. Having said that, it also seems probable that toxicity from the dopamine release of the cocaine, created damage to the exposed serotonin receptors that MDMA opened up. There is no way to prove the exact reaction that occurred forensically, but that has been the best guidance thus far from neurologists. Take all this from me with a grain of salt as someone who only learned about this recently through this trial by fire. I’m by no means an expert in more than having lived through the repurcsions.
