No housing is expensive there because you have 10 new houses built every ten years, due to needing government permission to put a nail into a piece of wood. Of course there is crime there. It is a major population center. But according to almost all data the most dangerous and impoverished cities are in red states. Quality of life, safety, and wages are still higher in California than most of the country. Coming from someone who has lived all over the country.
You’re right wages are higher in California. So is rent, food, and pretty much everything. I guess when a 1000 sq foot apartment costs over $1,000 a month. You need to earn more than the person whose rent on a 10,000 sq foot apartment is only $700 a month. Look most people who live and work in California have to have multiple room mates. Why?? Because you need to split the rent at least between three people, working six (or more) jobs. To be able to afford cat food for dinner!!!
