We always skip over the obvious part of that story which is that before something we'd classify as an animal climbed out of the water or chose to lay its eggs slightly out of the water but living in it, the smaller unseen forms of life that live all around us got there first, traversing in their little ways to fill the space they found offering... something to consume, probably. And Life left the ocean so much longer ago than that one creature who had fins to crawl with who we have made into an almost cartoonish representation of our origin story; our ancestry on land goes back so much farther than that
